Zettai ryouiki (絶対領域) loosely translates into "absolute territory" and is the area of bare skin seen between a skirt and thighhighs. Zettai Ryouiki is made up of three components: socks, skin and skirt.Since a Zettai Ryouiki is defined by the length of the stockings, some people have categorize it into grades depending on the size of the socks. This ranking system goes from Grade F to Grade A*. However, only Grades A and B are considered true Zettai Ryouiki.It has gained popularity around the world, especially in Japan.Since it is, by nature, a sensual costume that doesn't reveal the "naughty bits", it symbolizes budding, innocent sexuality.

- Grade B - Over Knee
- Grade A - Over Thighs.

- Grade G - Just Feet
- Grade H - Toes & Heel (a very rare sock type now a days)
